Mountain View Corridor

Salt Lake/Utah Counties, Utah, United States

Client: Utah Department of Transportation

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Role: Project Management, Design

Mountain View Corridor
The Mountain View Corridor transportation plan is intended to reduce traffic congestion in one of the most rapidly growing suburban areas in the U.S. The full plan includes a 35-mile (56-kilometer) north-south freeway connecting Interstate 80, which runs through Salt Lake County, to Interstate 15 in northern Utah County.

The plan also includes provisions for a high capacity transit line and a system of public-use trails. Parsons Brinckerhoff, as the lead consultant to the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), is providing project management, preliminary design, and public involvement services. Parsons Brinckerhoff also produced an eight-volume environmental impact statement that is considered one of the most complex transportation studies ever undertaken in the state. As the project develops, the project team keeps residents up-to-date through social media, weekly emails, and an interactive map and manages stakeholder response using Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Comment Sense online database.

In September 2011, the initial 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) segment in Utah County was completed. The firm performed final design for this segment and provided on-call construction engineering services. UDOT also selected Parsons Brinckerhoff as part of the program management team for the next phase, a 15-mile (24-kilometer) segment in Salt Lake County. A 2-mile (3-kilometer) portion of this segment opened in June 2012 and is already carrying 9,000 vehicles per day. The next segment, at 9 miles (14 kilometers) opened in October 2012.

The Mountain View Corridor project has received numerous awards, including:
--American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA)--TransOvation Award (2012)
--Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Excellence in Right-of-Way Stewardship Award (2012)
-- Association of General Contractors (AGC) Utah Platinum Safety Award (2011)
