What Is It?

The client has committed to pursuing sustainability, not just in a specific project, but embedding sustainability into their organization. Your role as a designer or project manager may be to help develop a framework for sustainability for a client's agency.

How To

There are as many ways to integrate sustainability into an agency as there are types of agencies. The first effort is to determine what the sustainability policy and objectives and regulatory requirements are for the agency. Sustainability in the organization could be as basic as tracking energy use, or include everything from tracking comprehensive GHG emissions in operations, facility audits, re-working of design guidelines, re-working specifications, to supply chain analysis to incorporate sustainability and re-tooling decision making to balance financial, social, and environmental objectives.
