Augusta Regional Airport Program/Construction Management

Augusta, Georgia, United States

Client: Augusta Regional Airport

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff Role: Program/Construction Management

Augusta Regional Airport Program/Construction Management
Parsons Brinckerhoff provided program/construction management services to the Augusta Regional Airport as it modernized and built a new 97,000-square-foot (9,000-square-meter) terminal on the footprint of the existing terminal while continuing to operate out of existing facilities. The biggest challenge was holding to the construction schedule while ensuring full operation of the airport.

The $28 million project encompassed new terminal construction to completely replace the existing terminal building, including the temporary facilities needed for phased construction and demolition of the current terminal (including asbestos-containing material removal and underground storage tank removal). The terminal consists of approximately 1,000 square feet (93 square meters) of basement, 80,500 square feet (7,478 square meters) of ground floor space, and 13,000 square feet (1,207 square meters) of second floor space. The work also included 8,000 square feet (743 square meters) of curb front canopy, brick screen walls and enclosures, landscaping, and an interior and exterior signage and graphics program.

The new terminal opened to the public in December 2007, with project completion in August 2008.

For several decades, we have been involved in the building and expansion of airports around the world.  Our significant expertise in airport planning, design, financial services and construction services (program and construction management), has allowed us to assist clients in successfully meeting the constant challenges that are part of the aviation industry.

As airport owners and operators worldwide face unprecedented challenges with capacity constraints, financial challenges, and aging aviation infrastructure, the ability to think out-of-the box, to create new forward looking solutions is needed.  Airports must also meet constantly changing standards for level of service, passenger preferences, technology, safety and sustainability.  Drawing on the latest technologies and innovations, we offer support to our clients ranging from strategic consulting, private financing initiatives, alternative energy solutions and planning/environmental services to design and construction-phase services to operations and maintenance, and we provide the program and construction management skills to oversee entire projects or capital programs.

In addition to airside and landside aviation facilities, we are also experienced in providing the full range of services for the facilities upon which airports depend, such as central utility plants and parking garages, in-line explosive detections systems, passenger security screening checkpoints, as well as highway and transit systems to and within airports.

In these challenging times, we continue to work with our airport/aviation clients to bring new ideas and solutions, and to provide quality professional services that are safe, efficient, cost effective and durable well into the future.
